Health and Climate
Dry season (May-September): A time of stable weather and crystal-clear skies. The ideal moment for the Inca Trail or a flight over the Nazca Lines.
Rainy season (December-March): The landscape is incredibly green, and the clouds drifting around the ruins of Machu Picchu give it a mystical character. It is also a time of lower prices in boutique hotels.
Altitude sickness (soroche) is about biology, not fitness. We use a “staircase acclimatisation” method – we accommodate guests in the Sacred Valley (2,800 m a.s.l.) rather than straight away in Cusco.
Every one of our vehicles carries medical oxygen, and our guides carry pulse oximeters. We also use natural Andean remedies: coca leaves and the herb muña.
There are no mandatory vaccinations for most travellers. However, we recommend hepatitis A and B and typhoid. For the Amazon, we recommend a yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before the trip.
Peru is the culinary capital of the world. We choose only trusted restaurants with the highest hygiene standards. We advise our guests against eating raw seafood (ceviche) at street markets, directing them to places where product quality is guaranteed.
Our expeditions are tailor-made. We have routes for those seeking comfort (the train to Machu Picchu) and for active travellers (Rainbow Mountain). We adapt every itinerary to your abilities, always keeping a pace suited to the altitude.
Logistics and Finances
Tickets for Huayna Picchu sell out 4 months in advance. As a local operator, we have direct access to the booking systems and guarantee stress-free entry to your chosen routes.
The currency is the Sol (PEN). US dollars are widely accepted but must be in perfect condition (no tears). In cities we recommend multi-currency cards such as Revolut, but at local markets cash is essential. We will point you to the safest exchange offices.
We monitor the situation in the country 24/7. In the event of road blockades or strikes, we immediately modify the plan and organise private flights or alternative routes. With us you are never left alone at an airport or terminal.
Boutique hotels in Cusco and Lima offer fast Wi-Fi. On the road we help you buy a local SIM card (Claro/Entel), which gives coverage in most places, including around Machu Picchu. The Amazon remains a “digital detox” zone.
Standard insurance often does not cover rescue operations above 3,000 m a.s.l. We advise our clients to take out policies extended to cover “high-risk sports” and mountain rescue costs, so that every moment in Peru is fully safe.
